Player
DC Hommes is an American professional basketball player of the NBA’s New Orleans Pelicans.
An Original Pelican.
The official New Orleans Pelican designed by: Rodney Richardson
When my Nephew Daulton Craig “DC” Hommes made the roster of the New Orleans Pelicans, I thought it would be fun to celebrate by doing a remake of the Pelican’s logo.
That quick project turned into a bigger idea—I’d always wanted to create an NBA player brand, and this was the perfect opportunity.
DC suffered back-to-back ACL tears his Jr, and then Sr. seasons in highschool hoops. Resulting in an opportunity to red-shirt for a D2 program. This before eventually being named the D2 POY. His journey to the NBA has been one marked by determination, dedication, perseverance, persistence, hustle, and attitude that kept fighting for his dream.
DC Logo.
A simple D.C. monogram mark exuding strength & balance.
Bold lines, forming a player's initials, have become a definitive standard within the industry. This trend serves as a distinguishing feature that integrates well on basketball shoes, trunks, and t-shirts. It was precisely on these principles that the DC mark was created
Application.
—tone / voice / look & feel
The look and feel of the identity emit a sense of grit and determination, evoked through words such as 'Perseverance' and 'Persistence.' The tone captures the essence of a challenging, enduring journey full of setbacks, yet combated with unwavering steadfastness, faith, and the discovery of joy within the struggle.
Simba.
Simba embodies a blend of courage, curiosity, and playful energy. His challenging journey from a spirited and adventurous cub to a mature and strong leader highlights his determination and loyalty. Simba's growth is marked by his resilience in the face of adversity. The lion cub symbolizes the enduring spirit of bravery, accountability, passion, and empathy.
“I’ve always just liked him. I kinda relate to his journey.”
